<br /> An Elk River man is dead after a two-vehicle crash Saturday that injured his wife,their infant
<br /> daughter and the driver of the other vehicle.
<br /> The accident occurred on Dec.4, 1:23 p.m.,on Highway 169 and 217th Avenue,north of Elk River in
<br /> Sherburne County.
<br /> According to the Minnesota State Highway Patrol, Sari Louise Evanson, 17,Zimmerman,was driving
<br /> a 2002 Chevy Cavalier southbound on Highway 169. Brent Mathison,37,Elk River,was driving a
<br /> 2000 GMC pickup northbound on 169.
<br /> The Evanson vehicle left the roadway,went through the median and collided with the Mathison
<br /> vehicle head-on,according to the State Patrol.
<br /> Mathison was pronounced dead at the scene. Passengers in his vehicle were his wife,Angela,33,and
<br /> their daughter Annika, 10.5 weeks old.They were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center.
<br /> According to an HCMC spokesperson,Angela Mathison is in satisfactory condition while Annika
<br /> Mathison is in serious condition.Evanson was injured,but the extent of her injuries and where she
<br /> was taken were not available.
<br /> All involved in the accident were wearing seat belts,the patrol said,and both vehicles had air bags,
<br /> the patrol said.
<br /> The funeral for Brent Mathison will be at noon Thursday,Dec. 9,at Holmen Lutheran Church,
<br /> Holmen, Wis.,with interment Friday, 11 a.m.,,Orono Cemetery.A reception will follow at Word of
<br /> Peace Church in Rogers.
<br /> Besides his wife and daughter,Mathison is survived by his parents,Karan and Trygve Mathison,
<br /> Holmen;a sister, Sarah Mathison;and his mother and father in-law,Bob and Darlene Cleveland of
<br /> Rogers.
<br /> Brent Mathison was born on Oct. 16, 1967, in LaCrosse,Wis. He married his wife on July 11,2003.
<br /> Mathison was the first director of human resources at Cretex,Elk River.He started there in February.
<br /> "We will always remember him as always cheerful,well-liked,respected and a decent young man,"
<br /> said Don Schumacher,executive vice president of Cretex Cos.
<br /> "It's a terrible tragedy," said Tom Bender,the president of Cretex Cos. "He had everything going for
<br /> him.A new wife,a new baby and a new home."
