<br />City of Elk River <br />Drug Task Force Investigator <br />Position Description <br /> <br />Department: Immediate Supervisor: <br />Police Police Administrative Captain <br />Pay Grade: FLSA Status: Last Updated: (date) <br />Union Non-Exempt January 2015 <br />Positions Supervised: <br />N/A <br /> <br />Position Summary <br />The Drug Task Force (DTF) Investigator works under the direction of the Administrative Captain <br />in cooperation with the Sherburne County Drug Task Force Commander. Investigates alleged <br />felonies, gross misdemeanors, and serious misdemeanor incidents, with a specific focus in the area <br />of narcotics crimes. The DTF Investigator serves within the jurisdiction of the City of Elk River <br />and other jurisdictions served by the greater Task Force to establish facts necessary for clearance or <br />arrest and court action of narcotics crimes. <br /> <br />Essential Functions <br /> <br />1.Performs specialized investigative duties related to narcotics. <br /> <br />A.Conducts investigations related to narcotics law violations, drug trafficking <br />violations, and drug conspiracy violations. <br /> <br />B.Conducts surveillance of illegal narcotics activities. <br /> <br />C.Assists in creating and maintaining files on illicit drug activity. <br /> <br />D.Cultivates and develops sources of information for criminal investigations. <br /> <br />E.Cooperate and assist other agencies in multi-jurisdictional investigations of narcotics <br />crimes. <br /> <br /> <br />2.Performs educational duties. <br /> <br />A.Conducts training sessions for youth on drug-related topics. <br /> <br />B.Conducts training sessions for parents and adult groups on drug-related topics. <br /> <br />C.Is available to educate other department members or city officials on the topic of <br />current trends in illegal drug activity. <br /> <br /> <br />3.Performs general investigative duties. <br /> <br />A.Conducts investigation of complaints as assigned, including identification, collection, <br />processing, and preservation of evidence. <br /> <br />B.Locates and gathers information from informants, suspects, experts, victims, and <br />witnesses. <br /> <br />C.Takes statements for use in developing the investigation. <br /> <br />D.Makes arrests or forwards for complaint as justified by facts developed. <br /> <br />E.Develops complete and concise oral and written reports. <br /> <br />F.Maintains complete and accurate notes and files on investigations. <br /> <br />G.Provides complete and credible testimony in court. <br /> <br />H.Assists prosecuting attorney in development of case. <br /> <br />I.Becomes familiar with criminals and criminal suspects and their likely location. <br />Page 1 <br />
