ABA MULTIPOINT RACES
As your potential track receives its ABA sancticning, •
cttcnutg, you would automatically be
allowed to promote up to 2 multipoint events in that current year. These races would
include a double point state championship qualifier and a double point Race For Life
(RFL). Additional multipoint races are available to all tracks for the current or following
year when certain criteria have been met
•
The term"multi-point" refers to the amount of points available for finishes in each race.
In comparison, a "local", or regular, race offers single points, whereas a "double" offers
twice the points for the same finish. These points accumulate directly into a riders
district standing towards a yearend ranking. These multipoint formatted races are
extremely valuable to your track in that they can, if used effectively, be tremendous
generators of revenue for the track. Riders will travel inter and intra state to attend
these more prestigious races which will expose your track to a vast number of diverse
riders. The awards for these races are, in turn, increased in terms of size and value
corresponding to the type of race. Ex.: For a triple point race, the awards would be
three times what is normal. This is an additional incentive for riders to compete.
The type of.multipoint races available to the tracks, along with a brief explanation, are
as follows:
Earned double: A double oint race ace available to a specified percentage of tracks based
on total numbers of new and renewed members signed up the previous year. •
Race For Life double: A double point race benefiting the Leukemia Society. This is an
optional race for each track to be nut within the window period of May 1 to July 4.
(Any track opening after the window period will forfeit this double point race.)
State Championship Qualifier: A double point race used as part of the state
championship Series in each state. Riders must attend a specified number of qualifiers
plus the finals to be eligible to win the championship title.
State Championship Final: A triple point race determining the champions of each class
• in each state. Any rider can compete in this race, yet only those that have met the
specified number of qualifiers can win the title. This event is awarded to the track
within each state that recruits the most new and renewed members during a specified
period of time. (An additional double point race also accompanies this event.)
Gold Cup Qualifier: A triple point race used to qualify riders within one of three U.S.
regions (East, West and Central) to compete in the corresponding Gold Cup final event
at a specified regional location. Interested tracks must apply to be eligible to receive a
qualifier race. The ABA competition committee makes all application approvals.
As you can see, there are many different types of multipoint races with each having its
own significance. The points available at these races are an important factor to rider
participation but included is the heightened excitement level for both the riders and
•
spectators involved. In addition, any event of this stature will have a positive effect on
your track and personnel by showcasing the facility.
