PROFIT AND LOSS NARRATIVE
October 2014
Please note the financials do not yet have the new format for the YTD variance between
the current and prior year as an amount. The far right column is still a%variation
comparing the current year-to-date with the prior year-to-date amounts.
Electric P&L
October's electric kwh sales (for September usage) are down slightly, 1.1%, overall from
the prior year. For further breakdown:
• Residential usage is down 2.8%
• Small Commercial usage is up 2.6%
• Large Commercial usage is down 1%
October Operating Revenue of$2,532,160 is under the prior year by 6.2%however, year-
to-date is up 4.2% and over year-to-date budgeted numbers by 5%.
We did not collect a PCA from customers in November and so the year-to-date amount
collected remains at$333,676 in PCAs (15 mils)). (Remember that the financials are
reflecting the transfer from reserves of$500,000 to offset the PCAs that we are
absorbing. This is shown, on a pro-forma basis, as a transfer to Revenue and distribution
from Equity, to represent in the financials the reserve allocation that normally occurs at
the end of the year. The line item is Other Revenue/CIP/Rate Increase/AC Credit.)
Other Revenue is up this month 11.8% from the prior year, and 2.5%above the year-to-
date budgeted amount.
• Interest and dividend income is more than the prior year
• The Landfill is performing better and producing a better return.
• Connection Fees are up considerably this month from the prior year.
Overall, Total Revenues are under the prior year by 5.14%, and increased 4.26%year to
date, and are ahead of budget by .4%.
The total purchased power cost of$1,620,768 is down 2.34% from last year. The PCA
included this month in our power bill was a credit $64,270, for a year-to-date
accumulated PCA of$714,329. As mentioned above, we did not charge our customers a
PCA in October.
For other expenses, they are over the prior year by 5.7%:
• Landfill Gas is increased due to a third quarter expense of approximately$30k for
parts and costs in excess of the maintenance contract.
27
