Creating a forebay will improve
water quality and decrease dredging needs in the larger lake. Improved wetlands will improve habitat and water quality.
By better shaping these features the dry portions of the park can be improved as well, creating uplands and wetlands,
rather than just having soggy areas. Improved trail loops will connect the park to schools and future development. An
"art walk" displaying sculpture and other art would work well as an upgrade to this park. The amphitheater will be
relocated and redesigned as an open stage to take advantage of views of the water.
If the arena is relocated to Lion John Weicht Park, it should be located in the northwest corner. The road connection
from Lions Park Drive and 6th Street NW will improve access and better define the two uses of the park. Depending
the footprint and desired programming of the building, the sledding hill may need to be modified or removed.
Draft 11.25.1 4 Chapter 5: How We Get There 42
