Building on the City's Powered by Nature brand, Elk River Parks and Recreation <br />is pursuing a series of initiatives to provide high quality facilities, recreation <br />opportunities, and a diverse park system for residents and visitors. <br />INITIATIVES <br />1. Improve Existing Parks and Facilities <br />The City will continue working with their current inventory of parks and <br />facilities and will look for opportunities to make strategic improvements. <br />2. Maintain Park Assets at a High Level <br />The City will protect its investments and recognize the level of effort and <br />resources necessary to keep park and facilities safe and free of deterioration. <br />3. Strengthen Trail Connections <br />The City will provide active and independent recreation for all ages with trail <br />features that are highly desired by the community. <br />4. Connect to the Rivers <br />The City will capitalize on the unique natural features of the community and <br />provide residents with water based experiences. <br />5. Provide Engaging Recreational Programming for the Entire Community <br />The City will strengthen its community ties, provide equitable recreation <br />opportunities, and promote learning and physical activity for residents of Elk <br />River. <br />6. Preserve Natural Resources and Greenways <br />The City will uphold Elk River's natural character and protect the environment <br />for flora, fauna, and future generations. <br />These six initiatives are broken down into recommendations with associated <br />strategies. Some recommendations and strategies address multiple initiatives and <br />therefore may be associated with multiple initiatives. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS & STRATEGIES <br />Initiative 1: Improve existing parks and facilities <br />Residents appreciate the various park types in the Elk River system. <br />Neighborhood Parks are the building blocks of the park system and provide <br />for everyday use. Neighborhoods in the southern part of the City are well <br />served by these neighborhood parks but they are of varying age and require <br />updates.
