TRAI LS <br />The Great Northern Trail (GNT) and trails within parks provide a range of <br />trail - related recreation and experiences. Trails are very popular with Elk River <br />residents but gaps in the system exist, and there is a need for a better connected <br />trail system. Trail needs and issues include: <br />• Lack of safe trail connections in some locations <br />► High traffic and low visibility locations dictate the need for off- <br />street trails <br />• Highway 169 is a significant east -west barrier <br />• Destinations that would benefit from greater connectivity include: <br />► Schools <br />► Downtown <br />► River(s) <br />21 City of Elk River- Parks and Recreation Master Plan Draft 11 .25.1 4 <br />
