HEHOI J NDUH

Item

#3.5.

TO:

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

Mayor and Council

Gary Leirmoe, WWTP Chief Operator

April 19, 2004

Authorization to Hire WWTP Operator

The City of Elk River Wastewater Treatment Plant has interviewed applicants for the new
position of Wastewater Operator. This has been an ongoing process since February 2004.
This position was offered to another candidate in February but was declined. The city had to
start the hiring process over again.

I am recommending the hiring of Joseph Wokson to fill this position. Employment will be
contingent upon a pre-employment driver's license background check and drug and alcohol
screening.

Joseph is a 2003 graduate of the two year Water/Wastewater Program at Vermilion College.
He also has worked part time for the City of Maple Grove on their jetting crew for the past
two summers. Joseph exhibited confidence and an ability to learn new skills and take on new
tasks and challenges during his interview. Because Joseph has a Class D Wastewater license,
he would start at Pay Grade 9, Step B.

Action Requested
Council approval to hire Joseph Wokson as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator at Pay
Grade 9, Step B ($15.80 per hour) beginning April 26, 2004 contingent upon successfully
passing the background check and the drug and alcohol screening.
