City of <br /> Elk=' Request for Action <br /> River <br /> To Item Number <br /> Mayor and City Council 6.3 <br /> Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br /> Presentations,Awards November 3, 2014 Michael Hecker, Parks and Recreation Director <br /> and Recognition <br /> Item Description Reviewed by <br /> Resolution: Midwest Landscapes Tree Donation Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> Reviewed by <br /> Action Requested <br /> • Adopt,by motion,a resolution acknowledging tree donations from Midwest Landscapes. <br /> • Recognize and thank Adam Zopfi, President of Midwest Landscapes for the donation. <br /> Background/Discussion <br /> Midwest Landscapes of Otsego volunteered to donate up to 20 trees at a value of$11,000. This is the <br /> second donation this year by Midwest to the city. They donated 20 trees in June that were approved by <br /> City Council for a value of$9,500. <br /> Staff determined,based on the size and species,that Orono Park and the grounds behind City Hall would <br /> be a good location for the new trees. The trees are large in diameter, 4 to 5.5 inches in size in a variety of <br /> Maple, Elm,Locust, and Oak. <br /> Pursuant to Minnesota Statute 465.03,resolutions acknowledging contributions must be adopted by a <br /> four-fifths vote. <br /> Financial Impact <br /> Midwest Landscapes donated up to 20 trees with a value of$11,000 to the City of Elk River. The trees <br /> were spaded by Tri-co Tree Movers at a cost of$160 per tree for a total cost of$3,200.
