The HPC was awarded a grant to prepare a Conditions Assessment for the Jackson Street Water <br /> Tower. A previous study prepared in partnership with the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Grants <br /> office indicated that a structural assessment of would also be required to determine its structural <br /> stability. The Condition Assessment will evaluate the structure and provide the HPC with a <br /> framework for completing the restoration project. Additionally,after the assessment is complete, the <br /> city will have a clearer picture of the costs associated with the project. <br /> Elk River Walking Tour <br /> The HPC continues to work with students and faculty at St. Cloud State University to prepare a self- <br /> guided walking tour of historically significant locations in Elk River. <br /> Oral Histories <br /> Commissioner Mortensen continues to conduct oral histories with residents willing to be <br /> interviewed. <br /> American Association for State and Local History Annual Conference <br /> In September 2014, staff member Zack Carlton and HPC Commissioner Debra Mortensen attended <br /> the conference in St. Paul,Minnesota. <br /> Salk Middle School History Fair Judging — City Engineer Justin Femrite participated as a judge <br /> for the 2014 fair. HPC Commissioners and city staff will once again participate in the judging at the <br /> 2015 fair. <br /> 2015 Proposed Projects <br /> Preservation of Jackson Street Water Tower <br /> The HPC will utilize the CLG Grant to hire a consultant to prepare a Conditions Assessment report. <br /> The report will be used to guide and plan the restoration of the tower. The city will research <br /> additional grant opportunities to help fund future phases of the project. <br /> Oral Histories <br /> The HPC will continue working on conducting oral histories of some of the older generation <br /> residents from Elk River. <br /> Historic Neighborhood District <br /> The HPC will continue to explore creating a historic neighborhood district in the City. <br /> Educational Opportunities <br /> HPC will continue to work with the Elk River Community Education Department and Parks and <br /> Recreation Department to incorporate educational opportunities into their programs. A historic tour <br /> could be coordinated with the Parks and Recreation Department. Elk River Community Education <br /> may be willing to host training to conduct oral histories in the community. <br /> 3 <br />
