Dear Ridgewood Home Owner Association:
We would like your input in resolving an issue on a trail that is partly on City park land
and partly on a Ridgewood outlet. (See attached map.) This trail was built several years ago for
cross-county skiing and hiking. This past summer portions of this trail experienced significant
erosion due to motorized vehicle use and mountain bike use.
Our hope for this trail is that it be maintained primarily for hiking, snowshoeing, cross-
country skiing and with a possible mountain biking loop.
To accomplish this goal, we need your help in restricting the use of motorized vehicles on
the portion of the trail on Ridgewood property. No motorized use is allowed on the City portion
of this trail.
Also, an interest has been expressed to use this trail for mountain biking. This can be
done but will require some rerouting around sensitive trail areas during the mountain biking
season. Erosion damage also will have to be repaired on existing trails to prevent serious and
irreparable erosion.
Please let us know what your policy is regarding motorized use of this trail on your out
lot. We will assist in signing and enforcement if you wish. The alternative to a non-motorized
area is to abandon the city owned portion of the trail to protect city park land from erosion.
Thank you for your help,
Elk River Park and Recreation
U:\PAULAQâ– UDGEWOO.WPD
