Dear Michelle,
• I am writing regarding the cross-country ski clinic we are planning for high school students. I
spoke with you several times over the phone about this and got your map of the trail system in the
mail a few weeks ago.
What follows is the information you will want to present to the park board regarding our planned
event. I remember you said something about the next meeting being close to or on Sept. 13.
Please give me a specific time, place, and date for this meeting. I will then notify Roland Ring-
Jarvi, who has agreed to speak on my behalf to the board. He will have a better idea than I as to
what areas of the park are appropriate for what activities. Here is the plan we have to date,
though we are certainly willing to change things to better accommodate others who will be using
the park.
Date: Oct 14-15
Time of clinic: 9:00 a.m.to 4:30 p.m.
Time we are likely to be actively using the trails: 10:00-12:00, 1:30-3:30.
Group size: maximum 50
Age: high school students with approx five coaches and three adult clinic leaders
Mission: to demonstrate methods of training for cross country skiing when their is no snow
• (dryland training). We will also be demonstrating proper ski technique and analyzing athletes'
technique.
Clinic agenda: The first day will be entirely on rollerskis. For this we plan to use paved trail.
One 1/2 to 1 mile section with some hills would be ideal. We could go back and forth on a section
or use a small loop. We will have a morning session and afternoon session, two hours each, times
indicated above. The rest of the time we will be eating or looking at video of what we did in the
sessions. The video analysis will hopefully take place at Meadowvale School. The second day
will be entirely on foot. For this we also need a section of trail, but pavement is not necessary.
An open area or field, especially one with a hill, would also be helpful. The athletes will be
bounding with their poles, running, walking, and doing specific ski drills. Again there will be
two sessions as on the previous day.
Clinic participants: We plan to have students from Elk River,Coon Rapids,Anoka,Blaine,
Roseville,and several other cities schools.
That's all I can think of right now Michelle, if you have any questions, please email or call me
(218) 724-9615. Thanks for your time.
Sincerely,
Sara Zimmer
Gitchi Gummi Sport Association
•
