Michele McPherson
To: John Dailey
Subject: RE: Hillside Estates park
John:
At this time, we are waiting for the developer to start the development
on the west side of Auburn Street (Hillside Estates 8th) . We still have
the original plan for the east side "on the books", so to speak. The
Park and Recreation Commission will be planning next year's improvements
at their January meeting. If you would like to see something done on
the east side of Auburn, I would suggest gathering your supporting
neighbor's signatures on a petition and submitting them to the Park and
Recreation Commission at open mike at either the November or the
December meeting. That would then send your request up to the Council.
It is my understanding that when the plans were discussed with the
neighbors previously, the "loudest" neighbors opposing the park
development lived on the south side of 196th Avenue and their properties
back up to the powerline corridor and the east park. A case of "not in
my backyard". The Council heard and no further action other than tree
clearing due to Oak Wilt has occurred.
The parks have been renamed Highlands East and Highlands West.
The Park and Recreation Commission meet the second Wednesday of every
month at 7:00 p.m. here at City Hall. You can watch them live on ErTV
Channel 12.
Thank you for your continued interest in our City's parks.
eichele McPherson
irector of Planning
City of Elk River
763/441-4902
763/441-7425 f
Original Message
From: John Dailey [mailto:johnpdailey @yahoo.com]
Sent: Wednesday, October 24, 2001 12:50 PM
To: Michele McPherson
Subject: Hillside Estates park
Michelle,
About 6 months ago I emailed you, inquiring about
future plans for a new park in our development
(Hillside Estates) . You replied that 2 parks have been
thought of and you also mailed out the proposed plans,
which looked very nice. You also informed me that the
Council was at that time reluctant to start work on
the plans because of opposition from a few residents
who lived nearby.
At this time I am just wondering what the status is
now, if there are any plans to move forward and begin
construction and if not is there anything I can do to
illlelp make it happen. I am greatly in support of a park
n the area and I find it hard to believe that those
who oppose it would not benefit from it. Please
forward my suggestion to the council and keep me
informed of the status. Thanks.
1
