TPL will achieve the <br /> acreage targets from among these projects depending on how quickly projects move, landowner <br /> timelines, due diligence challenges,timing of leveraged dollars, etc. <br /> Minnesota River Habitat Corridor potential projects: <br /> • Acquire fee title of up to 98 acres to continue expansion of the DNR's Savage Fen Scientific and <br /> Natural Area along the Minnesota River. This addition is adjacent to existing protected land and <br /> includes wetland and associated upland forest. <br /> • Acquire fee title of up to 30 acres at Pike Lake Natural Area for city,township or county <br /> protection. This is critical shoreline on a shallow lake with abundant waterfowl and nesting <br /> bald eagles. This projectwill connect existing natural area owned by the city with natural land <br /> owned by the YMCA, creating a larger wildlife corridor along Pike Creek,which flows 3 miles to <br /> the north into the Minnesota River, <br /> Mississippi River Habitat Corridor potential project: <br /> • Acquire fee title of up to 170 acres with 1200 feet of shoreline on the Wild and Scenic Rum <br /> River,just a few miles upstream of the Mississippi River,for city,township or county protection. <br /> The Rum River is an excellent bass fishery and a favorite canoe route. The land is mixed <br /> woodland and wetland habitat. <br /> St. Croix River Habitat Corridor potential projects: <br /> Acquire fee title of up to 200 acres of forest for state or federal protection in the Franconia/ <br /> Scandia St. Croix River corridor. This project will complement existing protected sands along the <br /> St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. <br /> + Acquire fee title of up to 1,000 acres of mixed forest and associated wetlands/shallow lake <br /> terrain, providing excellent habitat for waterfowl, deer and pheasant near Big Marine Lake. This <br /> is part of the larger St. Croix Greenway that connects to the St. Croix River. Ultimate protection <br /> will be in partnership with state and Local partners. <br /> Plaii iii ii g <br /> The Metro Sig Rivers.partnership has relied on science-based processes to identify potential projects for <br /> this grant phase. Partners apply the following key-habitat priorities ofthe Minnesota Statewide <br /> Conservation and Preservation Plan: <br /> • Protect priority habitat <br /> • Protect critical shorelands <br /> • Improve connectivity and access to outdoor recreation <br /> • Restore land,wetlands, and wetland-associated watersheds <br /> • Protect and restore critical in-water habitat of lakes and streams <br /> • Keep water on the landscape. <br />
