I WHAT INFORMAT!•N WAS LEARNED BY ATTENDING I learned quite a bit bout PERA, everything from the different ages to retire and how the benefit amount goes up, the high fi - average salary, the way you can take the payouts and the best time of the month to retire. The Financial Healt' and Retirement 101 was very good as well. The presenter talked about how important it was to �:ve a budget and to know what your actual expenses are for each month. Once you know that you s+ould try to have at least 12 months of reserve funds to cover these in case you have a personal ha ship. He also stressed how important it is to invest in an S&P 500 Index Fund vs. a Mutual Fund. Ovl -II, even though stocks are more risky,they have historically always outperformed mutual funds, certifi•-tes of deposits and bonds. If your in it for the long haul....stocks are the way to so. I also enjoyed the L'gislative Updates and Q&A Session presented by the League of Minnesota Cities. The items I felt appl -d to our business were the sales tax exemption for local units of government, the street improvement istrict authority and how that fits in with the city charging the franchise fees for these improvement's Keynote speaker Stevie Ray not only entertained us but shared some great ideas on how to add humor and increase huma ,connection at the work place. He had us do certain exercises and games to help demonstrate the po. tive effects of this. I also liked the 'art on comfort zone, risk and panic.
