I latural Resource Inventory <br /> Roseville, MN <br /> <br />Natural Resource Inventory Aids Planning. Helps <br />Maintain Ouality of Life by Preserving Parks <br /> <br />The citizens of Roseville have a s~rong interest in <br />maintaining their quality of life, a~d for many of them, <br />this is linked to the natural areas i~ the City. Roseville <br />City staff recognized this, and realized that to manage <br />their natural resources effectively, ithey needed to have a <br /> I k <br />specif c p an City officials and Bo~estroo staff wor ed <br />to secure DNR. funding for both al~comprehensive natural <br />resource inventory of five city patks, and Minnesota <br />Land Cover Classification System fMLCCS) coverage of <br />the entire City. <br /> <br />Bonestroo's team of restoration eCologists/botanists, <br />wetland scientists, limnologists, a~d GIS specialists <br />worked together to evaluate wetlands, upland <br />communities, stormwater ponds, ~nd lakes within the <br />five parks, including: <br /> <br />· A full inventory of woodlandsi forests, prairies, and <br /> other upland habitats that eval~Jated recreational <br /> usage, invasive/exotic species Concerns, existing plant <br /> species (including potential forlrare plant populations), <br /> and target plant communities. <br />· /~ comprehensive assessment Of wetlands that <br /> addressed plant community quality, hydrologic <br /> alterations, and restoration recommendations, as well <br /> <br />as storm water issues. This phase also included a <br />review of stormwater basins. <br />An analysis of overall lake quality for two basins, <br />including a review of historical lake data and an <br />analysis of watershed contributions and in-lake <br />processes that impact water quality. <br />For the three major study areas (uplands, wetlands, <br />and lakes), a list of site-specific management <br />recommendations including timelines, estimated <br />management activity costs, and priority rankings. <br /> <br />The Citywide MLCCS mapping provides a useful tool for <br />City officials and planners to use in surface water <br />management and other activities. <br /> <br />As part of the process, Bonestroo staff facilitated public <br />meetings to keep area residents informed about the <br />project and solicit their input.
