City

MEMORANDUM

Item'5.4.

TO:

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

Mayor and City Cou~ncil
Michele McPherso~~irector

July 15, 2002

Comprehensive Plan Update

of Planning

The Comprehensive Plan Task Force met on June 27, 2002 at Lions Park Center. There was
good attendance by all members of the Task Force or their alternates. There was no public
input at this meeting. The members of the Task Force reviewed the minutes of the May 30~
meeting; discussed the upcoming communication pieces and the June 4th Community Tour;
reviewed the results of Public Meeting # 2 and conducted an exercise to begin to identify
elements of a vision statement for the future City of Elk River.

The Task Force discussed at length the communications plan and expressed concern with
the lack of coverage in the local paper and also difficultly in finding information on the
City's Website. Rusty Fifield passed out a draft article for the next city newsletter, which will
be delivered August 7th. Rusty and I will be meeting with Jim Boyle to establish a series of
articles regarding the Comprehensive Plan for publication in the Elk River Star News.

The Task Force had a good discussion regarding elements of neighborhood and community.
This discussion will serve as the foundation for the vision statement of the Comprehensive
Plan, which is being drafted by Rusty This will be one of the major topics of conversation
at the next Task Force meeting which will be held August 1,2002 at Lion's Park Center
from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

MM:jak

S:\PLANNING\MICHMC\MEMOS\7 02 Compplanupdate.doc
