City of <br /> Elk Request for Action <br /> River <br /> To Item Number <br /> Mayor and City Council 4.7 <br /> Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br /> Consent March 3, 2014 Zack Carlton,Planner <br /> Item Description Reviewed by <br /> Authorization to Apply for Grant for Attendance at Jeremy Barnhart,Deputy Director, CODD <br /> American Association of State and Local History Reviewed by <br /> 2014 Conference Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> Action Requested <br /> Authorize,by motion, staff to apply for a grant to attend the American Association of State and Local <br /> History (AASLH) annual conference. <br /> Background/Discussion <br /> AASLH is holding their annual conference in St. Paul this year from September 17-20, 2014. <br /> Staff and members of the Heritage Preservation Commission have attended the state conference the past <br /> few years and this year's state conference is being held in conjunction with the national AASLH event. <br /> Attendees have received grant funding for the state event with matching funds from the city to fill any <br /> shortages in funding. Attending the conference is highly encouraged as it improves the city's standing <br /> when applying for additional grant opportunities through the State Historic Preservation Office. <br /> Registration for the event has not yet been opened,but grant applications are due April 11, 2014. The <br /> grant may cover costs for two attendees up to $800 per person. Lodging and per diem are not eligible for <br /> funding and will not be required for the conference. <br /> Last year Rebecca Haug and Commissioner Joshua Fox attended the state conference in Lanesboro,MN. <br /> The grant awarded$651 to cover $850 in registration,mileage, and lodging expenses. <br /> Financial Impact <br /> Costs not covered by the grant will be paid for by the HPC conference portion of the Mayor and Council <br /> budget. <br /> Attachments <br /> ■ 2014 AASLH Annual Meeting Overview <br /> P a w E A E U s r <br /> NaA f RE] <br />
