Oral Histories <br />Commissioner Mortensen continues to conduct oral histories to residents willing to be interviewed. <br />Annual Statewide Historic Preservation Conference <br />In September 2013, staff member Rebecca Haug and HPC Commissioner Joshua Fox attended the <br />conference in Lanesboro, Minnesota. <br />Salk Middle School History Fair Judging — Staff member Rebecca Haug was a )udging <br />participant at the January 2013 event. City Engineer Justin Femrite will participate in the 2014 Fair. <br />2014 Proposed Projects <br />Preservation of Water Tower <br />The HPC will continue to seek funding opportunities for restoration of the water tower. <br />Oral Histories <br />The HPC will continue working on conducting oral histories of some of the older generation <br />residents from Elk River. <br />Historic Neighborhood District <br />The HPC will continue to explore creating a historic neighborhood district in the City. <br />Educational Opportunities <br />HPC will continue to work with the Elk River Community Education Department and Parks and <br />Recreation Department to incorporate educational opportunities into their programs. A historic tour <br />could he coordinated with the Parks and Recreation Department. Elk River Community Education <br />may be willing to host training to conduct oral histories in the community. <br />Potential land acquisition(s) of a property <br />with local historical or cultural importance <br />The City of Elk River has been working with <br />Friends of the Mississippi and The <br />Conservation Fund to acquire the Houlton <br />Olson family farm property to add to the city <br />park system. <br />The 335 -acre riverfront property is located <br />west of downtown near the Orono Dam and <br />has been in the family since the 1870's. <br />Negotiations will continue into 2014. <br />5 <br />u: <br />�wWW <br />I <br />)y <br />y 1 <br />5 <br />
