Center for Community Committee <br /> Minutes of Meeting on Thursday, May 16, 2002, 4:00 p.m. <br /> Lions Park Center, Elk River <br /> Present: Don Heinzman, Nancy Gongoll, Jane Lindenfelser, Jim Boyle, Cliff Lundberg, Jim <br /> Mulroy, Charlie Blesener, Tony Darkenwald, Darlene Solberg, Sara Hartman, Sharon Tracy, <br /> Harvey Schroeder, John Fitzgerald, and Pat Elaers. <br /> The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Don Heinzman. The minutes of the April <br /> meeting were approved as printed. <br /> Redevelopment of Downtown Elk River: It was reported that the RFP's have been returned from <br /> potential developers. A summary was not available at the date of this meeting. The Arts <br /> Alliance indicated that it has had discussions with two developers for a possible downtown <br /> location of an arts facility. <br /> Land 0 Lakes Boys Choir. John Fitzgerald shared a preliminary plan for their building to be <br /> constructed on their current site on Highway 10 and County Road 15. It will be constructed in <br /> phases, depending upon their capital campaign. They are ready and able to build the first phase <br /> which will provide offices, practice rooms and recreation space for a total of approximately 6,000 <br /> square feet. The second phase is for performance with a large lobby. Initially the theater will <br /> seat 450 but is expandable to 700 when the wings are built. A full catering kitchen is part of the <br /> plan. John indicated that the facility will be available for community use. Their ultimate vision <br /> is to eventually create a school for the performing arts. They plan to break ground in September. <br /> They currently office on Jackson Avenue in Elk River and practice at the Union Church. <br /> Blackwoods Restaurant: Don Heinzman asked about the new restaurant Blackwoods that is <br /> going in Otsego on Highway 101. There is one currently located in Two Harbors. It was reported <br /> that it will have a party room that will seat 200-300 people. It is slated for November completion. <br /> It was noted that Christ Lutheran Church in Otsego also has a community room and stage area <br /> that is used by other groups. <br /> Family &Arts Center: Tony reviewed the first draft of the Letter of Inquiry for the Initiative <br /> Foundation planning grant. It was agreed that we will apply for $25,000 if we are seen as a <br /> multi community project. (Otherwise, planning grants are $5,000.) Tony will finish the letter <br /> with help from Mary Grace Flannery and other committee members and send it in. <br /> The meeting adjourned at approximately 5:15 p.m. <br />
