City Council Minutes Page 4
January 6,2014
6.3 Wayfinding/Gateway Signage Visual Communications Presentation
Ms. Gardner introduced Richard Lange with Visual Communications.
Mr. Lange identified goals of a wayfinding plan and reviewed sample work he has
done for other communities.
Councilmember Westgaard suggested working concurrently with the Parks and
Recreation Master Planning process.
There was discussion on grant funding for future signage projects. Ms. Latham noted
HKGi has the database and skills to match projects to funding sources.
7.1 2014 Master Fee Schedule
Ms. Allard presented the staff report.
Mayor Dietz opened the public hearing. There being no one to speak to this issue,
Mayor Dietz closed the public hearing.
Moved by Councilmember Westgaard and seconded by Councilmember
Motin to adopt Ordinance 14-01 adopting the 2014 Master Fee Schedule.
Motion carried 5-0.
Moved by Councilmember Westgaard and seconded by Councilmember
Wilson to adopt Resolution 14-04 approving notice of summary publication of
Ordinance 14-01 an ordinance adopting the 2014 Master Fee Schedule. Motion
carried 5-0.
8.1 Renaming Orono Athletic Complex
Mr. Hecker presented the staff report.
Councilmember Motin stated he believes the request for a name change meets city
policy but he has concerns. He noted he has raised these concerns in the past when
the policy was originally adopted. He stated he specifically has issues with naming
things after a person who is doing locally significant work. He stated people in the
future won't have any idea who Dave (or any other person) is. He stated Dave is
currently involved in city processes and if something, such as a park,is to be named
after someone,it should be after the person has passed away. Councilmember Motin
stated he would not vote to approve this request but emphasized that if anyone
deserves this type of honor it is Dave Anderson.
Mayor Dietz stated he respects Councilmember Motin's comments and cited
examples of sites named after local people such as Handke Pit and Salk Middle
School.
P O W E R E D 0 Y
1`4M
