· COMMUTER RAIL with ANOKA COUNTY LRT and BUSWAY The primary purpose of the Commuter Rail service between downtown Minneapolis and the St. Cloud area is to serve relatively long trips in the corridor. For longer trips it is common to have to transfer from one travel mode to access the Commuter Rail service. Typical examples of services available today would be: · Park-and-Ride · Passenger Drop-Off · Walk Access · Bicycle Access · Feeder Bus A number of complementary major transit investments have previously been proposed and/or are currently being proposed that should be integrated with this proposed Commuter Rail service. These transit investments include: Hiawatha LRT service between downtown Minneapolis and the Mall of America Northeast Corridor LRT service between downtown Minneapolis and the Northtown Shopping Center (see attachment dated May, 1991) Northeast Corridor busway facility on exclusive right-of-way between downtown Minneapolis and Northtown Transit Hub (see attachment dated November, 1995) Existing express and local bus services should be integrated with the proposed Commuter Rail service. Selected services include: 1-94 Express Bus service between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul Local bus service between downtown Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota The recommendation is made to drop the following two modal elements in the Universe of Alternatives as discrete options: Commuter Rail with Anoka County LRT Commuter Rail with Anoka County Busway RECOMMENDATION The recommended action is made to include the following transit systems and services as potential intermodal connections with the Commuter Rail: Hiawatha LRT Service Northeast Corridor LRT service Northeast Corridor Busway service 1-94 Express Bus service Local Bus service
