· COMMUTER RAIL with ANOKA COUNTY LRT and BUSWAY <br /> <br />The primary purpose of the Commuter Rail service between downtown Minneapolis and <br />the St. Cloud area is to serve relatively long trips in the corridor. For longer trips it is <br />common to have to transfer from one travel mode to access the Commuter Rail service. <br />Typical examples of services available today would be: <br /> <br />· Park-and-Ride <br />· Passenger Drop-Off <br />· Walk Access <br />· Bicycle Access <br />· Feeder Bus <br /> <br />A number of complementary major transit investments have previously been proposed <br />and/or are currently being proposed that should be integrated with this proposed <br />Commuter Rail service. These transit investments include: <br /> <br />Hiawatha LRT service between downtown Minneapolis and the Mall of America <br />Northeast Corridor LRT service between downtown Minneapolis and the <br />Northtown Shopping Center (see attachment dated May, 1991) <br />Northeast Corridor busway facility on exclusive right-of-way between downtown <br />Minneapolis and Northtown Transit Hub (see attachment dated November, 1995) <br /> <br />Existing express and local bus services should be integrated with the proposed Commuter <br />Rail service. Selected services include: <br /> <br />1-94 Express Bus service between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul <br />Local bus service between downtown Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota <br /> <br />The recommendation is made to drop the following two modal elements in the Universe of <br />Alternatives as discrete options: <br /> <br />Commuter Rail with Anoka County LRT <br />Commuter Rail with Anoka County Busway <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />The recommended action is made to include the following transit systems and services as <br />potential intermodal connections with the Commuter Rail: <br /> <br />Hiawatha LRT Service <br />Northeast Corridor LRT service <br />Northeast Corridor Busway service <br />1-94 Express Bus service <br />Local Bus service <br /> <br /> <br />
