Elk River <br /> Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING <br /> TO: FROM: <br /> Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Eric Volk - Water Superintendent <br /> John Dietz—Chair <br /> Al Nadeau—Vice Chair <br /> Daryl Thompson—Trustee <br /> MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: <br /> January 14, 2014 6.1E <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> Staff Update <br /> DISCUSSION: <br /> • Delivered 6 new residential water meters. <br /> • Sealed the water meter and took curbstop ties from 9 water services. <br /> • Shut off 3 water services, 2 electric services, and 1 fire line. <br /> • Completed weekly inspections of all booster stations. <br /> • Completed 25 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples; all confirmed negative for <br /> Coliform Bacteria. <br /> • Completed 20 routine fluoride samples. All samples met MDH standards. <br /> • We received the annual THM/HAA5 results from the Minnesota Department of Health. <br /> The results determined that our system is below the maximum contaminant level and that <br /> no further action is needed on our part. A copy of the report is attached. <br /> • 42 of 78 Businesses have signed up for the private hydrant maintenance program. With <br /> those 42 businesses signing up that puts the total at 107 out of 191 hydrants. We are not <br /> going to send any more letters out until November of 2014. If any more businesses call to <br /> sign up they will be able to, but we will not pursue any until more until the end of the <br /> year. Attached is a list of participants. <br /> • The new reduction in lead law came into effect of January 4`h. The affects to ERMU are <br /> minimal. Our house meters are already made of plastic, the rest of our meters are lead- <br /> free or made of cast-iron. The new law does not include fire hydrants. Attached is a short <br /> article from the AWWA. <br /> • Well #4 is at E.H. Renner and ready to be reinstalled as soon as the weather warms up a <br /> little. <br /> • SpeedCutters has been awarded the landscaping contract for ERMU properties for the <br /> 2014-2016 mowing seasons.
