More about the Citizens League....

The Elk River Area Citizens League was founded in 1987 by The 2001 Committee, Inc.
The mission of the Citizens League is to foster a more informed public, resulting in better
choices and decision making for area residents.

The Citizens League is a non-partisan, non-sectarian and not-for-profit organization.
Membership in the League is open to all area citizens who support its mission. As a
research and discussion entity, the Citizens League brings together a group of individuals
from a variety of backgrounds and interests. These diverse perspectives represent our
strength. Within the arena of League activities, however, political and/or professional
allegiances are set aside, and the commonality of our grassroots citizenship guides our
efforts.

Each year the Citizens League selects a study topic. Members who are interested in the
topic participate in research and discussion of the issue. When the study is completed, the
League publishes a report which is available to the public.

The Citizens League also sponsors Candidate Forums in order to help citizens learn about
political candidates and their positions on various issues. These meetings are held during
election years and are open to all area citizens.

Through these activities, the Elk River Area Citizens League fulfills its mission to foster a
more informed public, which is the very foundation of a healthy democracy.

For membership information, contact:

Rita Johnson Mary Eberley Bob Minton
Chair 441-4547 Vice-Chair 441-8870 241-9104

Citizen League members who prepared this report

Paul Ammerman
Mary Eberley
Don Heinzman
Nancy Gongoll
Rita Johnson
Rachel Leonard

Louise Kuester
John Kuester
Mary Jo Minton
Bob Minton
Shelly Sherper
Don Sherper

The Elk River Area Citizens League wishes to express its appreciation to the Three Rivers
Foundation for providing financial support for this study.
