City of <br /> Elk Request for Action <br /> River <br /> To Item Number <br /> Mayor and City Council 6.2 <br /> Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br /> Awards, Recognitions, November 18, 2013 T.John Cunningham,Fire Chief <br /> and Presentations <br /> Item Description Reviewed by <br /> Fireman's Fund Grant Presentation Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> Reviewed by <br /> Action Requested <br /> Accept a donation from the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company for the purchase of a new thermal <br /> imaging camera. <br /> Background/Discussion <br /> Earlier this year,representatives from the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company approached Chief <br /> Cunningham to discuss nominating the Elk River Fire Department for a grant through the company's <br /> Bucket Brigade program. This program is designed to provide financial assistance to fire departments <br /> across the country to purchase life-saving firefighting and rescue equipment. Fire departments are <br /> nominated by company employees who must complete a thorough application for individual <br /> departments. <br /> An application was submitted on behalf of the Elk River Fire Department for the purchase of a thermal <br /> imaging camera for Rescue 1, the department's heavy rescue truck. Last month,the Fire Department <br /> received news that it will be the recipient of an award from the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. <br /> This is the third grant award from the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. In June,2010, the <br /> department received $25,000 to begin the replacement of hydraulic rescue equipment. In October,2007, <br /> the department received $7,700 to purchase wildland personal protective equipment.
