It was moved by Darlene Solberg and seconded by Nancy Gongoll to adopt a resolution
supporting the Community Family & Arts Center (see attached). In the discussion,it was noted
that there is a large base of volunteers involved in the project and that the Handke project is
regional in scope. The Community Education and ECFE programs need a permanent home. A
referendum for a new elementary school will need to pass. Handke is especially important to the
area in its historical significance. Handke is no longer in step with current elementary
facilities...the Family & Art Center would be a better use. It would be a good continuing long
term use of the facility. It is close to the current downtown area and would be an asset in the
redevelopment of the downtown. The resolution was passed.
It was agreed to request a meeting with the original Operation ER Team to request their support
and commit the balance of their funds to the project. Betty Zehringer will convene a meeting
next month.
The next steps identified were to:
• Convene the Operation ER Team to adopt the resolution
• Invite other organizations to adopt the resolution
• Hold one on one meetings with stake holders
• Involve a strategist, possibly from the Initiative Foundation
• Contact ArtSpace to explore their services
The next meeting will be held Thursday, November 14 (changed to November 21) at Handke
School.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 5:30 p.m.
•
•
•
