COMMUNITY SURVEY
The firm of Decision Resources, Ltd. conducted a community survey dealing with many
parks and recreation issues. The survey includes 402 randomly selected residents of the City
of Elk River who were interviewed between December 14 and December 27, 1989. The
Executive Summary and Survey Tabulation is attached as an Appendix to this Report.
The survey indicated an extremely high usage of park and recreation facilities including
trails, nature areas, swimming, fishing and golfing. Passive walking was a popular activity
as was softball and children's play opportunities. The concept of a downtown river walk was
strongly supported as was additional park land along the River and a community center. The
residents also expressed a preference for neighborhood parks over community playfields.
It is recommended that an updated survey is conducted.
90
