There are <br /> approximately 2,000 community-owned electric utilities that collectively provide electricity on a not-for- <br /> profit basis to 46 million Americans. <br /> They are operated by local governments as a public service with the mission of providing electricity in a <br /> reliable manner, at a reasonable cost,and with proper protection of the environment. Public power <br /> companies exist to serve our fellow citizens, friends,and neighbors. Elk River Municipal Utilities'loyalty <br /> is to our customers and our community,not stockholders.
