Fish, Wildlife and Sensitive Resources

oo
In summary, you commented on your concern regarding habitat fragmentation and water
quality and specifically questioned whether or not easements to protect vegetation will be
required between the wetlands on the site and the lots to avoid lawn chemicals from
entering the wetlands.

Response

Trott Brook is a protect DNR Tributary Stream. The city's shoreland ordinance does
regulate the clearing of vegetation adjacent to this water body. Whereas, the city does not
typically require easements specifically for vegetative buffer strips, the drainage and
utility easements that protect all wetlands in a plat are typically oversized beyond the
edges of the wetlands. In addition, the city is considering a ban on fertilizer containing
phosphorus in 1999 and has been encouraging the use of buffer strips.

Item 16. Soils

The basic concern raised in this comment is the suitability of soils to bear footings and
avoiding water problems in houses.

13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
