"Because of the rigorous scrutiny this project received under Bush Administration criteria and
the significant changes made to the project, I am very comfortable in leading this project to the
next level," Governor Pawlenty said.

The Governor also emphasized the cost of the project will go up. "The current $265 million cost
estimate is likely to increase after final design for several reasons," he said.

Govemor Pawlenty also included $10 million in funding for the Cedar Avenue busway, which
will go from the Mall of America to Lakeville in the south central metro, in his bonding
proposal. The money will pay for preliminary engineering and environmental assessments,
short-term improvements on Cedar Avenue and construction of a park-and-ride on Cedar Avenue
and Highway 13.

In addition, as part of its bonding proposal, the Administration is recommending $28 million to
assist in local bridge replacement in Greater Minnesota that will leverage $40 million in federal
and local funds to replace approximately 170 deficient local bridges throughout the state. The
proposal also includes $10 million for local road improvement projects for local roads of state
and regional significance.
