ity

of

River

Item #4.5.

MEMORANDUM

TO:

FROM:

DATE:

Mayor & City Council

Pat Klaers, City Admi~or
August 17, 1998

SUBJECT: Boys and Girls Club Update

Councilmember Thompson is the Chair of the temporary Board of Directors
of the Elk River Boys and Girls Club. Mayor Duitsman is also on the Board.
The Lions Club is working with this organization on the construction of a
facility in Lions Park. The Boys and Girls Club is moving forward with its
fundraising efforts in order to provide money for the construction of the
facility and for the operation of the Club during the first year.

Street/Park Superintendent Phil Hals and his crew have been working with
the Lions Club in the preparation of the building site. Additionally, Fire
Chief Bruce West was requested to use the aerial platform ladder truck in
order to provide water to the building site. Water was needed in order to
help the building site pass its compaction tests. I have recently talked with a
representative of one of the participating local financial institutions
regarding the lease between the city and the Boys and Girls Club. As I
understand it, the city attorney is still awaiting information from the Boys
and Girls Club and the local financial institutions in order to structure the
lease document. This lease document will allow for the construction to take
place in Lions Park consistent with the conditional use permit for the project
which has already been approved by the City Council.

Councilmember Thompson or Mayor Duitsman will be in attendance at this
meeting and should be able to provide everyone with an update on the
progress that is being made on this project.

\\elkriver \sys\shr doc\council\b & gclub.doc

13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
