Last year I had discussed conducting a strategic planning session with the Commission. The
Commission directed me to bring back examples. I would like to schedule a weekday afternoon
in August to have a strategic planning session workshop with the Commission to review some
options and get direction.
I attended a meeting with Great River Energy(GRE) regarding the Midcontinent Independent
System Operator(MISO) requirements related to the revised Capacity Agreement for our diesel
power plant. The MISO capacity market changed this planning year to a year-ahead market and
the process for submitting the required information has substantially changed. ERMU staff is
working through the logistics for how our engines would be called on to run. Based on this
summer, our agreement with GRE may need to be revised for the next MISO planning year. Our
agreement has an evergreen annual term.
The 2013 budget included one staff and one commissioner attending the American Public Power
Association Nation Conference. None of the commissioners were able to attend this year. We
had discussed at a previous commission meeting the possibility of sending a second staff
member in lieu of a commissioner, but after subsequent staff discussion decided against that. As
it turns out, the hotel at which the conference is being held was already booked. The money
budgeted for this conference will be carried forward for next year.
Just a reminder of a few upcoming event dates:
GRE Annual Meeting June 12
MMUA Annual Summer Meeting Aug 19-21
w.
Page 2 of 2 1PO t E 0 E 1 B Y
NATURE
Reliable Public
Power Provider POWERED To SERVE
