i <br /> City or <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> Elk -...„ <br /> River <br /> TO: Parks and Recreation Commission <br /> FROM: Annette Bonin <br /> DATE: June 3, 2013 <br /> SUBJECT: Activity Center Report <br /> May Recap: <br /> • Cinco DeMayo celebration was held on May 6th.A make your own taco bar, salsa <br /> dance class and card bingo were all part of the fun. <br /> • The 17th Annual Senior Day Out was held on May 8d'. This event,held at the • <br /> Friendly Buffalo in Big Lake was sponsored by SALT (Seniors and Law Together). <br /> Presentations included safe driving, senior services and a K-9 demonstration. <br /> • Over 100 people attended the 22nd Annual Older Americans Month Celebration at <br /> River City Extreme in Monticello on May 21". This event was co-sponsored by Elk <br /> River, Monticello and Coon Rapids Senior Centers. <br /> • Bob Ross Painting Technique class was back by popular demand. A full class of 15 <br /> attended and an additional fall class has been scheduled. <br /> • ABC Square dance lessons at Lions Park concluded with a dance event. More lessons <br /> will be offered in the fall. <br /> • Resurfacing and painting of outdoor pickleball courts at Lions Park is now complete. <br /> A lockbox was also installed to store pickleball equipment. Activity Center staff will <br /> control the issuing of the lockbox code to participants. <br /> • The Activity Center participated in National Senior Health and Fitness Day on Wed <br /> May 29t. A free Yogilates class was held in the morning and a walk to Rivers Edge <br /> was held in the afternoon.
