i City or MEMORANDUM Elk -...„ River TO: Parks and Recreation Commission FROM: Annette Bonin DATE: June 3, 2013 SUBJECT: Activity Center Report May Recap: • Cinco DeMayo celebration was held on May 6th.A make your own taco bar, salsa dance class and card bingo were all part of the fun. • The 17th Annual Senior Day Out was held on May 8d'. This event,held at the • Friendly Buffalo in Big Lake was sponsored by SALT (Seniors and Law Together). Presentations included safe driving, senior services and a K-9 demonstration. • Over 100 people attended the 22nd Annual Older Americans Month Celebration at River City Extreme in Monticello on May 21". This event was co-sponsored by Elk River, Monticello and Coon Rapids Senior Centers. • Bob Ross Painting Technique class was back by popular demand. A full class of 15 attended and an additional fall class has been scheduled. • ABC Square dance lessons at Lions Park concluded with a dance event. More lessons will be offered in the fall. • Resurfacing and painting of outdoor pickleball courts at Lions Park is now complete. A lockbox was also installed to store pickleball equipment. Activity Center staff will control the issuing of the lockbox code to participants. • The Activity Center participated in National Senior Health and Fitness Day on Wed May 29t. A free Yogilates class was held in the morning and a walk to Rivers Edge was held in the afternoon. Many positive comments were received by staff.
