City of
Elk REQUEST FOR ACTION
River
TO ITEM NUMBER
Mayor and City Council 4.6
AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY
Consent June 3, 2013 Michael Hecker, Parks and Recreation
Director
ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED By
Bailey Point Powered By Nature Logo Signage Cal Portner, City Administrator
REVIEWED BY
ACTION REQUESTED
Motion by Council for approval of Powered by Nature logo on city signage for Bailey Point regarding
river access regulations.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
City Council approved new regulations for the Bailey Point Nature Preserve at the May 20 City Council
meeting. During discussions of the new regulations, City Council reviewed a draft sign indicating river
access with a department tagline but no Powered by Nature logo. Council Members commented that the
Powered by Nature logo should be included on the proposed sign. The Parks and Recreation tagline is
Inspire-Play-Grow.
The Powered by Nature logo is a stand-alone logo that can be used by the city and the community. Each
department within the city has an opportunity to add a tagline onto the bottom of the Powered by Nature
logo if they so choose per the Branding Guidelines. The department undertook a visioning process this
past year and developed the tagline Inspire-Play-Grow. Various department and communications staff
discussed how the tagline can be used as part of the Powered by Nature logo or it can be pulled out
separately and used on its own. The new Orono Park playground with the Powered by Nature is an
example in which both the logo and taglines are shown separately on individual features.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Minimal or no cost when including Powered by Nature logos with tagline on future signs.
ATTACHMENTS
■ River access sign for Bailey Point
POWERED BY
NaA f RE]
