Elk River Activity Center <br /> Guidelines and Code of Conduct <br /> Elk River Activity Center is open to the public and provides programs designed for people age 55+. To best <br /> serve qualified individuals, the City of Elk River has adopted the following guidelines and code of conduct to <br /> ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for staff and participants. This code governs the actions of all <br /> participants associated with any Activity Center program, service or activity. <br /> 1. Sign In: Participants are required to stop at the front desk to check in. <br /> 2. Independence: Participants are expected to be capable of independent decision making and functioning <br /> (i.e.transportation, lunch arrangements). <br /> 3. Personal & Medical Care: Participants are expected to be responsible for their own medical and <br /> personal care. The center does not provide assistance with medication, personal health or medical care. <br /> Participants may bring a health aide or family member to offer personal or physical assistance. <br /> 4. Smoking, Drugs and Alcohol Policy: Smoking is not allowed in the building and when smoking <br /> outside you must be 50 feet away from the building. Drinking alcohol or using illegal substances on the <br /> premises is not allowed. Participants who attend the Activity Center while under the influence of alcohol <br /> or illegal substances will be asked to leave immediately. <br /> 5. Personal Property: No storage of personal belongings. All participants are required to leave the areas <br /> they have been using in a clean state. Touching or removing personal articles belonging to others is not <br /> permitted. <br /> 6. Playing for Money: Playing for money is not allowed unless it is a formal Activity Center sponsored <br /> program or event (i.e. Smear cards, Billiards Tournament).Independently played card games and billiards <br /> are not to be played for money. <br /> 7. Personal Conduct: Behavior which creates an offensive environment is inappropriate. Inappropriate <br /> behavior includes but is not limited to: <br /> • Loud, disruptive, obscene,hateful or abusive language <br /> • Making threats or demonstrating threatening behavior, verbally or in writing, to participants or <br /> staff. This includes harassment or intimidation by words, gestures, body language or any <br /> menacing behavior. <br /> • Racial, religious or sexual harassment of participants or staff. <br /> • Physical altercation with participants or staff. <br /> • Failure to maintain an adequate level of personal cleanliness and proper hygiene. <br /> • Committing or attempting to commit any activity that would constitute a violation of any federal, <br /> state, or local criminal statute or ordinance. <br /> • Destruction,damage or theft of city property or the property of others. <br /> • Carrying or concealing any unlicensed weapons, devices,or objects that may be used as weapons. <br /> • Other behavior that is deemed inappropriate by city staff or volunteers acting in their stead, or <br /> negatively impacts the reasonable rights of others to a positive and harassment free experience. <br /> Failure to follow the above guidelines will constitute a disciplinary action to be determined by City of Elk River <br /> staff. City of Elk River staff shall be the sole judge of what constitutes negative conduct and behavior covered <br /> by this policy. Each occurrence will be evaluated on an individual basis. Violations will result in action <br /> including, but not limited to, verbal warning, temporary and permanent suspension.
