Elk River ..`,r <br />Municipal Utilities <br />UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING <br />TO: <br />FROM: <br />Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission <br />Wade Lovelette — Superintendent of Technical <br />John Dietz, Chair <br />Services <br />Daryl Thompson, Vice Chair <br />Allan Nadeau, Trustee <br />MEETING DATE: <br />AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: <br />March 19, 2013 <br />6.1 <br />SUBJECT: <br />Staff Update <br />DISCUSSION: <br />The Locating department had a total of 72 locate tickets for the month of February; one of them <br />being an emergency ticket, two cancelations, one meet, 50 normal, three updated tickets, 13 non- <br />excavation, one Engineering DSG ticket and one boundary survey. The locating staff also helped <br />with energy audits. <br />• Jeff continues using the infrared camera in the field to see if there are any hot spots on our <br />system that need immediate attention. He found a bad current transformer that needed to be <br />changed because it was heating and failed (see attached report). This caused the customer to be <br />getting free electricity on that leg of the transformer for an undetermined amount of time. The <br />transformer had to be shut down so that the repairs could be made. <br />In February, the Security Systems Department had a total of 85 phone contacts, eight new <br />systems quoted, seven system sales made, seven installs completed, 24 service calls made and <br />eight personal visits. <br />Meter Technicians continue with the meter reading, power bill, substation checks and off -peak <br />issues. They are also involved with the energy audits. They continue to change -out three -phase <br />meters to radio read meters. <br />The power plant staff did the monthly run of the generators. Steve also completes the building <br />safety checks and engine run reports to GRE. Steve is helping the line crews with tree trimming <br />as his time permits. <br />Steve and Jeff attended a Cross - Training school in Marshall. They learned about hazards and <br />what to expect to look for when working with line crews in the field.
