Municipals <br />own or have under contract 120 MW of <br />renewable energy sources. Nationally, <br />the Northern Municipal Power Agency <br />is No. 1 in percentage of retail sales <br />from wind; the Southern Minnesota <br />Municipal Power Agency was rated <br />fourth for estimated percentage of <br />retail sales expected from wind power. <br />In Minnesota, Missouri River Energy <br />Services is first in percentage of power <br />purchased from Community -Based En- <br />ergy Development (C -BED) projects. <br />Founded in 1931, Minnesota Municipal <br />Utilities Association (MMUA) is the <br />statewide association representing mu- <br />nicipal electric and gas utilities across <br />the state of Minnesota. <br />OFFICIAL ORGAN <br />Mu kip.l Utilitis A.,J.ti.. <br />Municipal utilities are lo- <br />cated throughout the state. <br />Of the 87 county seat cities <br />in Minnesota, 50 operate <br />municipal electric and /or <br />natural gas utilities. <br />There are approximately 50 local <br />municipal power plants in <br />Minnesota. These plants` <br />are generally used in <br />times of emergency and <br />also act as a hedge against <br />high wholesale market prices. <br />Power supply facts and figures <br />Municipal utilities do not generate <br />all of their own power locally.
