ELK kivERAREA
Chamber of Commerce
powsrU,va 7YE Nh r UR of BUSAcss
MEMO
DATE: April 8, 2013
TO: City of Elk River Planning Commission
City of Elk River City Council
FROM: Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce
RE: Conditional Use Permit for Franklin Outdoor Advertising
Billboard marketing is used by many local businesses to help promote their business presence in our
area. The chamber also uses billboard marketing to promote the Business & Community Expo in our
local area. In today's world of fractured attention spans, billboards are notably one of the few mass
marketing opportunities that effectively reach an entire community and those who travel through it.
There is high demand for more billboard marketing from local businesses. A digital changeable copy
sign such as the type requested in the CUP would most certainly help create supply for the local market.
Businesses that are able to market locally are better able to grow locally and continue to provide jobs
and pay local taxes.
We support the request from Franklin Outdoor Advertising for a Conditional Use Permit for the billboard
on highway 169.
Sincerely,
Debbi Rydberg, IOM
Executive Director
Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce
