City of MEMORANDUM Elk -�-1 River TO: Heritage Preservation Commission FROM: Rebecca Haug, Environmental Administrator DATE: April 11, 2013 SUBJECT: Meeting Reminder—April 18, 2013 This is to remind you of our upcoming meeting on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Elk River City Hall in the Uppertown Conference Room. Please see the attached agenda and minutes. STAFF UPDATES I. PLANNING COMMISSION ITEMS No items on the Planning Commission agenda for discussion. 2. HISTORY DAY Information was sent out after the last meeting with the duties for each commissioner. A copy has also been included in your packet. A budget is also included in your packet. Event planning takes a lot of time and I think the commission should consider putting together a committee to work on this event. There is too much work to be done if this is to be successful. Monthly meetings are not frequent enough to make this event a success. With that in mind, the commission needs to be aware of not breaking the quorum status so only fwo HPC members can be at committee meetings and the HPC may wish to consider forming partnerships from others with experience in event planning. 3. TRAINING OPPORTUNITY The Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) staff received numerous requests for training and is trying to determine how to accommodate all of the requests. Staff will keep the HPC informed as to when training opportunities will be available. 4. ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEY UPDATE The Minnesota Historical Society Grants Review committee met on Thursday,April II, 2013 to review grant applications. The city's grant application to conduct the archaeological survey at Bailey Point Park in the summer of 2013 was on the list. Staff will give an update during the meeting if there is any new information.
