COMMUNITY PROFILE •• <br /> Business and Industry <br /> • <br /> Elk River's location has made it an ideal destination for business and industry. Situated <br /> close to the metro and along two major highways, Elk River is home to a wide range of <br /> original equipment manufacturers (OEM), light and heavy industrial manufacturing <br /> facilities and multiple data centers. The proliferation of commercial and industrial <br /> development creates unique opportunities and challenges for emergency service <br /> providers as tactics, strategies, equipment and personnel needs commonly reflect that <br /> of the specific target hazards of a community. <br /> Government <br /> Elk River is a Statutory Plan A city with a weak Mayor-Council form of government <br /> whereby administrative, as well as legislative, authority is the ultimate responsibility of <br /> the City Council. <br /> The Mayor and four Councilmembers serve on the City Council as elected officials for <br /> 4-year terms. The Mayor is elected by the electors of the city at large.
