3.3.2. Biosolids Storage Tank
After digestion, the biosolids are transferred to an unheated storage tank. The existing
biosolids storage tank has two basins with a total volume of 700,000 gallons. The
biosolids are thickened in the storage tank to further reduce the volume and stored until
land application.
A summary of the evaluation of the various unit processes at the Elk River WWTF is
presented in Table 3.2.
Table 3.2
Evaluation of Existing Treatment Units Summary
Elk River Wastewater Treatment Facility
2035 Design Requirement
Unit Process Existing Notes
Facility USA Only USA+
Outside
Preliminary Treatment
Screen 7.0 MGD 7.09 MGD 9.08 MGD
Grit Removal 7.0 MGD 7.09 MGD 9.08 MGD
Flow Measurement(Parshall Flume) 10.4 MGD 7.09 MGD 9.08 MGD 12"throat
Primary Clarifiers
Number 2
Diameter, ft 40
SWD, ft 9
Max AWWA Capacity(Total) 2.50 MGD 3.55 MGD 4.54 MGD
Max PHWW Capacity(Total) 3.76 MGD 5.68 MGD 7.27 MGD
Trickling Filter
Number 2
Diameter, ft 45
SWD, ft 26
Media Plastic Top 2' cross flow&
bottom 24' vertical flow
Total Max Hydraulic Capacity 2.86 MGD 5.68 MGD 7.27 MGD
Total Max Organic Capacity 6616 lbs/day In parallel operation
Aeration Tank Volume Needed,MG 1.8 2.6
Final Clarifiers
Number 3
Diameter, ft 50
SWD, ft 16
Max PHWW Capacity/Clarifier 1.76 MGD
Total Max Capacity 5.28 MGD 5.68 MGD 7.27 MGD
City of Elk River—T12.104758 Page 14
Wastewater Treatment Facility Plan Prepared by Bolton&Menk,Inc.
