City of Elk River <br /> Elk �* Parks and Recreation <br /> River Intern/Temporary Assistant <br /> Position Description <br /> Department: Immediate Supervisor: <br /> Parks and Recreation I Parks and Recreation Director <br /> Pay Grade: FLSA Status: Last Updated: (date) <br /> $8.50 to $9.50 per hour Non-Exempt 1/2013 <br /> Positions Supervised: <br /> N/A <br /> Position Summary <br /> The Parks and Recreation Intern/Temporary Assistant will be instrumental in the writing of the <br /> parks maintenance plan and will assist with recreation programs, special events and parks <br /> maintenance. The duration of this position is 14 weeks. <br /> Essential Functions <br /> 1. Assists in the development of a parks maintenance plan. <br /> A. Inventories the city's park system and reviews assets. <br /> B. Develops an outline of the tasks,procedures and policies required to maintain the <br /> city's park system. <br /> 2. Develops and operates recreation programs. <br /> A. Coordinates, schedules and supervises programs. <br /> B. Assists with existing special events and day camps. <br /> C. Organizes volunteers,procures equipment and assists in set up. <br /> D. Evaluates success of programs, events and camps. <br /> E. Follows up with necessary correspondence and record keeping. <br /> 3. Performs other essential job duties. <br /> A. Regular and timely work attendance. <br /> B. Follows all safety procedures. <br /> C. Participates in safety training. <br /> Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities <br /> ❑ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees. Community <br /> leaders, city officials and the general public. <br /> ❑ Ability to work evenings and weekends. <br /> ❑ Ability to communicate effective both orally and in writing. <br /> ❑ Ability to instruct or lead individuals in games, arts, crafts, or other sport activities. <br /> Minimum Qualifications <br /> ❑ Junior or Senior at an accredited college or university with major course work in Parks and <br /> Recreation or related field. Returning to school or graduate following internship. <br /> ❑ Demonstrated computer skills. <br /> ❑ Valid driver's license and good driving record. <br /> ❑ Experience in operating or participating in recreation sports leagues or programs. <br /> Page 1 <br />
