<br /> Located approximately 40 miles northwest of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Elk River is one of
<br /> U the largest land-mass cities in Minnesota. The city's official brand, Powered by Nature,

<br /> Population
<br /> Elk River's population has grown significantly over the past 40 years. The population
<br /> grew from 2,252 in 1970 to 22,974 in 2010, an increase of 920%. A Comprehensive
<br /> Housing Needs Analysis that was completed in 2012 for the city revealed the following:
<br /> • The City of Elk River is forecast to add an additional 3,290 people and 1,280
<br /> households between 2010 and 2020.
<br /> • In total, Elk River is reported to have approximately 1,085 housing units, of
<br /> which about 6,480 are owner occupied and 1,600 are renter occupied.
<br /> • The population in Elk River is aging and older age cohorts are accounting for a
<br /> significant percentage of the population.
<br /> • Elk River has eight senior housing facilities with a total of 353 units.
