?ity of <br /> <br />River <br /> <br />Item # 4.7. <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />Mayor and City Council <br /> <br /> Scott Harlicker, Planning Assistant' <br /> June 15, 1998 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Update Northstar Corridor Project <br /> <br />At the June 4th meeting of the Northstar Corridor Development Authority <br />there was a presentation by BRW regarding the Major Investment Study, an <br />update on federal legislation regarding funding and update on the Burlington <br />Northern feasibility study. <br /> <br />Maior Investment Study <br /> <br />BRW gave a presentation on what will be included in the Major Investment <br />Study (MIS). Discussion centered on the need for public involvement and how <br />that could best be accomplished. A series of 2 public meetings held at 3 <br />locations will be included. The locations have yet to be determined. Likely <br />locations include one at the southern end of the corridor, one in the middle <br />and one at the northern end. A web site which could tie in with the web sites <br />of other cities and counties is proposed. A time schedule for the MIS through <br />December 1998 has been included. <br /> <br />A meeting has also been scheduled for Friday June 26th , 8:00 to 11:30, at the <br />Sherburne County Government Center for a City/County/Township planning <br />forum. This will be an opportunity for planners, engineers and interested <br />elected officials to be brought up to speed regarding the Northstar Corridor <br />Project. At this meeting there will be a discussion regarding potential station <br />locations. It is expected that a list of possible station locations will be <br />generated at this meeting. <br /> <br />Funding <br /> <br />Federal legislation has been approved authorizing funding for the Northstar <br />Corridor. The next step is for the Federal Transit Authority to appropriate <br />funding. The Northstar Corridor is one of approximately 170 projects seeking <br />funding. The Corridor was authorized for funding in two locations. Funding <br />was authorized as a separate project and was also included as part of the <br />Twin City Transitway which also includes the Hiawatha Light Rail Corridor. <br /> <br />13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
