Staff Report
May 1998
Michele Bergh

Summer Staff
The deadline for applying has passed. I received a total of 9 applications. It truly is an employee's
market now. Two years ago I received approximately 40 applications. I have also noticed that many
of these young students make more per hour at the jobs that they have had or have now than we
offer to start. The biggest needs are still for evening TBall programs.

Summer Shirts
Shirts are due to me by the end of this week. ! have some of them already and the vendor says the
rest will be here by the end of the week. This year I decided to go with some different shirts for each
program. They all have our logo on them somewhere. Most of them have out name in athletic print
on the front and in the center it looks like the shirt is ripped and a ball (like a tennis ball, a baseball or
a basketball, etc.) is coming through it.

Summer Programs
We have taken in approximately $25,000 for summer. This is about 880 registrations. Registration
has only been in place for a little over a week. Last year, at the end of May we had taken in $26,073
for 930 registration.

Featured Program - Girls Summer Basketball League (administered by Larry Krieg)
We became involved in the program during it's second year in 1997. This league serves girls in
grades 4-9. Last year the program served about 100 girls and I think we will serve the same this year.
One challenging thing that has come up this year is Zimmerman and Livonia not qualifying for the
discount. Due to the fact that the non-residency fees have increase so much, people are really upset
about it and it makes some of our programs unaffordable for some people. With this, as well as other
programs with large non-resident fees, we are experiencing a much larger group of people who
attempt to take it who really don't qualify. ! have some thoughts about making this easier for us to
administer and will be at the next meeting to discuss them.
