MEMORANDUM

Item 5.6.

TO:

Mayor and Council

FROM:

Lori Johnson, Finance Director

DATE:

October 13, 2003

SUBJECT: Consider Award of Bids for City Hall Security System

On November 25, 2002 the City Council awarded the security system contract for the Public
Safety building to Pro-Tec Design, Inc. At that time staff informed Council that Bob
Pearson would be working with Pro-Tec Design and the police department to design a
security system for City Hall. That work has been completed and Pro-Tec Design has
submitted a quote for a security system that meets the City's needs. As you may recall Pro-
Tec Design is a contract holder under the State of Minnesota Cooperative Purchasing
Venture.

Pro-Tec's proposal for a complete security system at City Hall including security cameras is
$34,880. This system will integrate with the system at the Public Safety building and also
include an emergency response system to alert the police department of any emergency
situation at City Hall.

Action Requested
The City Council is asked to approve a contract with Pro-Tec Design, Inc., in the amount of
$34,880 for the City Hall security system.

C:~Documents and Settmgs\tallard.
