Elk MEMORANDUM <br /> River <br /> TO: Heritage Preservation Commission <br /> FROM: Rebecca Haug, Environmental Administrator <br /> DATE: June 14, 2012 <br /> SUBJECT: Meeting Reminder—June 21, 2012 <br /> This is to remind you of our upcoming meeting on Thursday,June 21, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the Elk River <br /> City Hall in the Uppertown Conference Room. Please see the attached agenda and minutes. <br /> STAFF UPDATES <br /> 1. ELK RIVER WATER TOWER UPDATE <br /> The National Park Service has announced that the Elk River Water Tower is on the National Register <br /> of Historic Places. The HPC now needs to determine how to fundraise and find grant opportunities to <br /> help with the restoration. <br /> 2. PLANNING COMMISSION ITEMS <br /> No items on the Planning Commission agenda for discussion. <br /> 3. DOWTOWN TASK FORCE UPDATE <br /> Chair Lindberg will give an update from the meetings that were on April 23, 2012 and May 30, 2012. <br /> The next meeting is scheduled for June 25, 2012. <br /> 4. BAILEY POINT & HOULTON PROPERTY UPDATE <br /> Staff will give updates during the meeting. <br /> 5. SHERBURNE COUNTY FAIR BOOTH <br /> There are no booths available inside the buildings for the Sherburne County Fair. There are spaces <br /> available outside. <br /> 6. HISTORIC ARTICLES <br /> Staff will be working with SCSU on writing articles about the events in Elk River that the Water Tower <br /> has seen since 1920. The HPC also discussed writing articles about the pros and cons of creating _ <br /> historic neighborhood districts. Staff is considering asking SCSU to also write articles on the topic. <br /> Let's further discuss this at the meeting. <br /> If you have any questions or are unable to attend, please call Rebecca at (763) 635-1068.
