Elk River Municipal Utilities is celebrating its 65th anniversary of being a municipal electric and
water utility. Officially, the"Elk River Public Utilities" was first created on July 11, 1947 when
the Village of Elk River adopted a resolution creating a Water, Light, Power and Building
Commission and appointed its first three members: V.B. Skellinger, Otis Nickerson, and C.F.
Meyers. Power had been supplied to the community for some 30 years prior. The Elk River
Power and Light Company was established in 1915 and was then acquired by the Village of Elk
River in 1945. Thanks to the vision of the(then) Village of Elk River, we exist to today as our
company mission states "To provide our customers safe, reliable, cost effective and quality long
term electric and water utility services." We look forward to another 65 years of serving
community as public power and water! Attached are the handwritten minutes from that July 11,
1947, special meeting of the Elk River Village Council when the Utilities Commission was
created.
P 0 V E R E R R 1
Page 2 of 2 NATUR EI
Reliable Publics
Power Provider P O W E R E D To S E R V E
