T P $A Dr.J L LA $
227 Morton Avenue
Elk River, Minnesota $5330
612.441.4171

TO:

SUBJECT:

DATE:

ELK RIVER PLANNING COMMISSION AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT REQUEST

MARCH 30, 1998

Attached is an application for a Conditional Use Permit to conduct a business from my home. My
sister, Pat Egan, and I are working on plans to open a workshop stuelio.

Pat and I have a reputation among friends and family in matters of art, decoration and comforts of
the home. We'd like to expand what we enjoy into a family venture, and share our ideas in a
workshop setting with neighbors and friends. Both Pat and I are employed in fulltime careers, and
therefore, this venture is an extension of the hobbies and things that we enjoy.

This is the type of business to be operated from home because it expands on what is here - the
porch, garden, potting shed. To characterize "The Porch", we have noted some ideas for its
operation:

We see our clientele as largely female; they will come to relax, enjoy the setting, and
involve themselves in projects.
Projects could include items for the home: linens, candles, soaps - handmade comforts.
Any sales would be incidental to the operation of the business.
Days and hours of operation:
Saturdays, year-round (may close January/February); 1 l:00am-5:00pm, and by
appointment; seasonal open houses.

Thank you for the opportunity to present this request to you. We intend to comply with the home
occupation criteria as stated in City ordinances, and are willing and available to provide all
information that you require to make a decision. Please feel free to contact me at any time.

Respectfully yours,

Teresa DeJarlais
