Work Rules <br />k7 accepting employment with the City of Ells River, employees become representatives of <br />the city and are responsible for assisting and serving the residents for whom they work. An <br />employee's primary responsibility is to serve the residents of Ells River. Employees <br />shallexhibit conduct that is ethical, professional, responsive, and of standards becoming of <br />a city employee. To achieve this goal, employees must adhere to established policies, Hiles, <br />and procedures and follow the instructions of their supervisors. <br />The following are job requirements for every position of the City of Ell{ River. All <br />employees are expected to: <br />• Perform assigned duties to the best of their abilities at all times. <br />• Render prompt and courteous service to the public at all times. <br />• Read, understand, and comply with the n~les and regulations as set forth in these <br />Persoiulel Policies as well as those of their departments. <br />• Conduct themselves with deconun toward both residents and staff and respond to <br />inquiries and information requests with patience and courtesy. <br />• Report any and all unsafe conditions to the immediate supervisor. <br />• Maintain good attendance. <br />Orientation Period <br />The Orientation Period is an integral part of the employment process in which the city and <br />the new employee should consider whether the employment is mutually satisfactory. <br />The Orientation Period consists of the first six (6) months of employment. During the <br />period, the city will observe the employee's work to determine whether the employee <br />demonstrates that s/he is qualified for the position to which s/he was appointed. <br />Performance, skills, ability, and other factors observed and demonstrated during the period <br />are evaluated by the employee's supervisor in order to deternne whether the employee <br />will be retained. Employment during the orientation period is at-will, meaiung the <br />employee and the city each have the right to terminate employment with or without cause <br />or notice (except if provided otherwise by statute or applicable collective bargaining <br />agreement). If the employee does not meet established standards, and there is reason to <br />believe, in the city's sole discretion, that a longer review period is needed, the Orientation <br />Period may be extended to a total of 12 months. <br />Upon satisfactory completion of the Orientation Period, the employee will become a <br />regular employee. This does imply employment is permanent. Except as provided by <br />statute or applicable collective bargaining agreement, employment for all city employees is <br />for an indefinite time and can be terminated by either party at any time and for any reason, <br />both during and after the Orientation Period. <br />Employees promoted or appointed to new positions must successfully complete a six <br />month Orientation Period. If found during the orientation to be unsuited for the position, <br />the city at its sole discretion, may reinstate the employee to his/her former position and <br />former rate of pay. Reinstatement is not guaranteed. <br />
